Clive Barker's Salome/The Forbidden (1978)
Two early shorts from Clive Barker. Experimental, student-film aesthetic may disappoint
horror fans seeking usual Barker thrills 'n' chills but great for serious Barker fans
interested in his early work.
Starring: Doug Bradley, Peter Atkins
Director: Clive Barker
Runtime: 54 minutes
Rating: Not Rated |
Rawhead
Rex (1986)
Low-budget tale of bloodthirsty demon unleashed in rural Ireland. Not great but not bad,
the Rawhead Rex costume is fairly good, except the mouth never moves. Still it's not
a bad little film.
Starring: David Dukes, Kelly Piper
Director: George Pavlou
Runtime: 89 minutes
Rating: R |
Hellraiser (1987)
Extra gory, brutal, bloody frightfest about woman's affair with her demonic
brother-in-law. You may gag a few times, but this is definitely worth watching at least
once!
Starring: Andrew
Robinson, Clare Higgins
Director: Clive Barker
Runtime: 94 minutes
Rating: R |
Hellbound:
Hellraiser II (1988)
Gore soaked sequel about a teenager who goes to hell to rescue her father. Filled with
gruesome images and as much blood, guts and gore as the first one.
Starring: Ashley
Laurence, Clare Higgins
Director: Tony Randel
Runtime: 97 minutes
Rating: R |
Hellraiser
III: Hell on Earth (1992)
Gory, occasionally silly sequel has demons from the underworld terrorizing typical female
"babes". Some serious effects, giddy finale should please horror fans; not for
squeamish viewers as it is as gory as the rest.
Starring: Terry
Farrell, Doug Bradley
Director: Anthony Hickox
Runtime: 91 minutes
Rating: R |
Hellraiser: Bloodline
(1996)
Gory, meandering fourth installment in fading horror series. Trashed by critics for its
lack of coherent story line, below standard special effects and low suspense level.
Sometimes sequels should die.................. so bad that "Alan Smithee"
directed it.
Starring: Bruce Ramsay, Valentina Vargas
Director: Alan Smithee
Runtime: 85 minutes Rating: R |
Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
Like I said, sometimes sequels should die. A corrupt cop opens the infamous box and
unleashes its demons in the fifth installment of the cult/horror series.
Starring: Craig Sheffer, Nicholas Turturro
Director: Scott
Derrickson
Runtime: 90 minutes
Rating: R |
Night Breed (1990)
The underground world of Meridian, a twisted performance by David Cronenberg and an eerie
mask all add to the great makeup effects and monstrosities that are the main
attractions of this film made from a Barker short story.
Starring: Craig
Sheffer, Anne Bobby
Director: Clive Barker
Runtime: 101 minutes
Rating: R |
Candyman (1992)
Chilling of urban legend killer
with a big grudge and the PhD student who's framed for murders he commits. This film, like
all of Barkers, has it's gory moments. Not for the squeamish.
Starring: Virginia Madsen, Tony Todd
Director: Bernard Rose
Runtime: 98 minutes
Rating: R |
Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh (1995)
The Candyman returns when a school teacher in New Orleans accidentally summons the killer
during Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Some how NoLa always makes it into horror films.
Starring: Tony Todd, Kelly Rowan
Director: Bill
Condon
Runtime: 99 minutes
Rating: R |
Candyman 3: Day of the Dead (1999)
More mayhem brought
about by the Candyman and his descendants in modern times. No where near as good as the
first film or even the second but worth at least one watch just to stay in the story line.
Starring: Donna D'Errico, Tony Todd
Director: Turi Meyer
Runtime: 102 minutes
Rating: R |
Lord of Illusions
(1995)
Intriguing horror/mystery mix about a private detective investigating a black magic cult.
Critics were lukewarm but many Barker fans rate this highly for its imaginative concept
and abundant gory thrills.
Starring: Scott
Bakula, Kevin J. O'Connor
Director: Clive Barker
Runtime: 121 minutes
Rating: R/UR |
