Pet Sematary (1989)
Story of a man who becomes aquatinted with a pet cemetery that has magical powers to raise
the dead. The sometimes corny acting may distract from the truly gruesome story but this
tale will give you the shivers!
Starring: Dale Midkiff, Fred Gwynne
Director: Mary Lambert
Runtime: 105 minutes
Rating: R |
Graveyard Shift (1990)
Very cheesy adaptation! Mill workers discover that the thing killing workers is a mutated
giant winged rat hiding deep within the mills under layers. Brad Dourif gives a great
performance as the exterminator, that's worth watching it.
Starring: David Andrews, Kelly Wolf, Brad Dourif
Director: Ralph S. Singleton
Runtime: 89 minutes
Rating: R |
Misery (1990)
Outstanding adaptation about a writer and his obsessed fan. After killing off a character
in his novel and a mishap with an accident, he is found and "rescued" by a
crazed fan bent on resurrecting the heroine from the novels. Very creepy psychological as
well as horror film.
Starring: James Caan, Kathy Bates
Director: Rob Reiner
Runtime: 107 minutes
Rating: R |
The Dark Half (1991)
A popular horror author's pseudonym comes to life and starts killing people. The
novelist must hunt him down and kill his alter ego before it destroys his life.

Sleepwalkers (1992)
A incestuous mother and son move from
town to town, searching for virgins to feed their hunger. Not as lame as it sounds, it was
actually a good little movie.

Director: Mick Garris
Runtime: 91 minutes
Rating: R |
Needful Things (1993)
Supernatural horror thriller about residents of idyllic small town making Faustian
bargains with Satanic store-owner. This Stephen King adaptation is strictly for horror
fans in need of a quick fix. There's a 4 hour version floating around TNT that is great!
Starring: Max von Sydow, Ed Harris
Directors: Fraser C. Heston, Fraser Clarke Heston
Runtime: 120 minutes
Rating: R |
Dolores Claiborne (1994)
Brooding, angst-ridden film about a housekeeper accused of murdering her employer. Also
delves into the mother/daughter relationship damaged by the death of her husband and what
prompted it. Very good adaptation!
Starring: Kathy Bates, Jennifer Jason Leigh
Director: Taylor Hackford
Runtime: 131 minutes
Rating: R |
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Outstanding film!! Powerful character study that examines the eighteen year long
relationship between two prison inmates in a Maine prison. Some of Kings best stories have
nothing to do with fantasy monsters.
Starring: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman
Director: Frank Darabont
Runtime: 142 minutes
Rating: R |
The Mangler (1995)
This has to be the worst of all of the King adaptation films. Great story, terrible movie!
It really stunk! An industrial laundry machine develops a taste for blood. Strictly
for those who can overlook a totally ludicrous plot, very bad acting, and prefer
cheesy gore to a great plot, good acting and genuine scares.
Starring: Robert Englund, Ted Levine
Director: Tobe Hooper
Runtime: 106 minutes Rating: R/UR |
Thinner (1996)
Follows on the heels of the worst movie, a supernatural chiller about overweight lawyer
fighting gypsy's curse that has him wasting away. Interesting plot line but story falls
short on film.
Starring: Robert Burke, Joe Mantegna
Director: Tom Holland
Runtime: 92 minutes
Rating: R |
Apt Pupil (1998)
Yet another
disappointing adaptation ... dark
thriller about teenager's twisted relationship with his Nazi war criminal neighbor. Though
many might find its plot slow going, McKellen's performance should deliver chills to
suspense fans and saves the film, somewhat.
Starring: Ian McKellen, Brad Renfro
Director: Bryan Singer
Runtime: 100 minutes
Rating: R |
The Night Flier (1998)
Dark chiller follows a cynical tabloid reporter who is tracking killer's murderous trail
across Midwest. Some really gory moments, and not the greatest film but for some reason,
we still thought it was pretty good. Watch and judge for yourself.
Starring: Miguel Ferrer, Julie Entwistle
Director: Mark Pavia
Runtime: 99 minutes
Rating: R |
The Green Mile (1999)
Excellent adaptation, one of the best! Serious drama about a death row guard who suspects
an inmate with supernatural powers isn't guilty. Its rich characters and emotional power
will please fans of sentimental drama, if they are able to withstand the length and
heavy-handed tear jerking. We could over and over again.
Starring: Tom Hanks, Patricia Clarkson
Director: Frank Darabont
Runtime: 180 minutes Rating: R |
